Tree Preservation Confirmed at Former Kirkstall Brewery Site
The council has made a tree preservation order permanent at the Kirkstall Brewery site to protect mature trees from potential felling

Back in April 2024, someone raised a red flag about a bunch of trees being cut down at the site, which is now home to student housing. A council officer checked it out the next month and found a lot of trees had already been removed.
The report from the council said that when they visited, those trees weren’t protected by law. So, they quickly put a Tree Preservation Order in place on July 16, 2024, just to be safe. Initially, it was just a temporary measure.
Now, the council has come out with a report saying they want to make that order permanent. They want to protect the mix of mature trees that could be at risk if things aren’t kept in check. The report wrapped up by saying that, after looking at everything, they believe the order is necessary for the community and the environment.
