Newbury: Recently, tree pollarding took place in Victoria Park. The Newbury Town Council got this done to help the lime trees grow back healthier.

They mentioned that this work was important for keeping park visitors safe and reducing storm damage risks. Plus, it helps the trees thrive in their natural setting.

Council leader Gary Norman shared that this method not only encourages new growth but also helps the trees live longer. It’s all about making sure future generations can enjoy the park’s greenery.

He added that they aim to balance safety, sustainability, and the beauty of the trees. Pollarding is a tried-and-true method that keeps the trees healthy for years.

While the work was going on, some areas of the park were temporarily closed off for everyone’s safety. James Heasman, the parks supervisor, acknowledged that tree maintenance can be a bit inconvenient but stressed its importance for the trees’ long-term health.

He reminded locals that similar work was done about ten years ago. It might look a bit shocking at first, but the trees will bounce back quickly.

If anyone has questions or concerns about the project, James is open to hearing from you via email at james.heasman@newbury.gov.uk.
