Darwin: So, Nick and Mathilde kicked off their journey with a road trip to Croatia before it turned into this epic world tour. They just loved it so much that they thought, “Why not keep going?”

Back then, they didn’t even know what overlanding was. They both had regular jobs in Paris and Brussels, but after some research, they decided to take the plunge.

They figured it wouldn’t be as pricey as they thought if they lived in their truck, cooked their meals, and skipped the fancy restaurants. Now, they’re overlanding around the globe, and they just wrapped up their Australian adventure after nine months of exploring.

Australia’s vast distances were a bit of a shock at first, but Nick says there are so many amazing spots to check out. They loved places like Tasmania, Cape York, and Uluru, just to name a few.

They call their truck Albatross, or Albo for short. Recently, they shipped it off to Dili, East Timor, while they take a little detour through New Zealand for the holidays.

Traveling isn’t cheap, though. Nick estimates their yearly expenses, including shipping and insurance, run about $60,000. But they’ve managed to fund most of it through social media, which has really taken off since they started sharing their adventures.

What started as a three-year trip has now stretched to five years because they’re just having too much fun to rush. They’ve covered seven continents, 88 countries, and a whopping 300,000 kilometers!

In their last weeks in Australia, they finally spotted the elusive thorny devil lizard, which had been on their bucket list. It was a thrilling moment for them, and they couldn’t believe their luck.

Now, they’re gearing up for the next leg of their journey through Asia and eventually Africa. They’re living the dream, and Nick says, “The whole world is our garden.”
