Toronto: Winter weather is making a mess of things in southern Ontario. A band of lake-effect snow is hitting the area, and it started late Thursday night. This is going to slow down commutes just in time for the weekend.

We’re looking at about 2-5 cm of snow today, but some spots in the western Greater Toronto Area might see even more. The snow is really coming down, especially near the lake.

Environment and Climate Change Canada is warning drivers to be careful. They say conditions are going to be slippery, and rush hour traffic could be a nightmare.

And just when you think it can’t get worse, a cold snap is on the way. This weekend is expected to be the coldest we’ve seen all year, with temperatures dropping into the negatives.

So, if you’re heading out today, be prepared for a slower drive. The snow is going to affect major routes like the QEW and the Don Valley Parkway, so take it easy.

They’re also predicting some snow squalls near Lake Huron later tonight, which could bring even heavier snow. If you don’t have to travel, it might be best to stay put until things clear up.

As for the weekend, bundle up! Wind chills could make it feel like it’s in the negative teens in the GTA. But don’t worry, next week looks like it’ll warm up a bit.

We’re also keeping an eye on the weather for Christmas. There’s a chance we could see some wet snow or even rain, depending on how the temperatures play out. It’s going to be an interesting holiday week!

Stay tuned for updates on the weather and travel conditions across Ontario.
