London: Transport for London has just announced its plans for the Tube and bus services over Christmas and New Year. There will be some changes, so get ready for a bit of disruption for about a week and a half.
Some parts of the Tube and Overground will run on a reduced schedule due to planned works. Mainline services from Paddington and Liverpool Street will also be affected. But don’t worry, they’re adding extra trains for New Year’s Eve to help everyone celebrate.
Good news for drivers: the congestion charge won’t be in effect from December 25 to January 1. However, the ultra-low emission zone (Ulez) will still be active, except for Christmas Day.
Claire Mann, the chief operating officer at Transport for London, expressed excitement about helping Londoners and visitors enjoy the city’s festive offerings. She emphasized that TfL’s services are the best way to navigate the capital safely and affordably.
She also reminded everyone to check the service updates before traveling, as there will be planned works during this busy time. So, if you’re planning to head out, make sure to stay informed!
Here’s a quick look at the service changes for the festive period, starting with Monday, December 23, when the DLR will have a special service, and the Elizabeth line will run normally.
On Christmas Day, expect a Sunday service for London buses, while the DLR will have a special service starting at 8:30 AM. The Elizabeth line won’t be running at all that day.
As we move into the New Year, the services will gradually return to normal, but keep an eye out for special overnight services on New Year’s Eve. It’s all about making sure everyone can enjoy the celebrations!
