Derry: Buses in Derry have been put on hold because of some troubling incidents. Young people have been attacking the buses, and it’s causing a real mess for everyone.
Local councillor Brian Tierney mentioned that these attacks are hitting the community hard. The Foyle Metro services in the Shantallow area are now off the schedule after 7pm, which is a big deal for folks who rely on them.
He pointed out that these late-night buses are crucial for people coming home from work or the city center. Now, they’ll have to find other ways to get back, which is just frustrating.
Tierney also urged young people to think twice about their actions and asked parents to keep an eye on their kids. It’s not the first time services have been pulled in this area, and the locals are fed up with the disruptions.
He stressed that bus drivers deserve to feel safe while doing their jobs. No one should have to deal with this kind of nonsense. Hopefully, the services will be back next Monday, and the SDLP is working with Translink to put an end to these attacks.
Sinn Fein councillor Sandra Duffy chimed in, sharing that last week, buses were hit with snowballs and ice, and this week it was “muck bombs.” She made it clear that this isn’t a joke; it’s dangerous for everyone involved.
Duffy added that the community is now left without a bus service, which is a real inconvenience. She’s also calling on parents to talk to their kids about the importance of these services and to stop the attacks.
