Wales: So, here’s the scoop. Train strikes are kicking off this weekend and they’re set to mess with services in Wales for quite a while. Workers from Avanti West Coast, who are part of the RMT union, are striking every Sunday until May 25.
This means if you’re planning to travel, you might want to think twice. On strike days, trains will be running on a reduced schedule. If you’ve got tickets for those days, you can get a full refund, which is a relief.
With fewer trains running, the ones that do will likely be packed. Avanti West Coast mainly operates in north Wales, and on strike days, there won’t be any services at all in that area. So, it’s going to be a bit of a hassle.
Kathryn O’Brien, who’s in charge of customer experience at Avanti, expressed her disappointment about the extended strike. She mentioned that it’s tough for customers who might be working or visiting loved ones during this time. She thanked everyone for their patience, which is nice of her.
On strike days, they’ll have a limited service, so if you have tickets, it’s best to travel on different days or get that refund. They’re still open to chatting with the RMT to sort things out, so fingers crossed.
As for the service changes, on January 12, they’ll only run one train per hour from Euston to places like Birmingham and Manchester. There will be some rail replacement buses too, but it’s all a bit of a mess.
Trains will be running during limited hours, with the first one leaving Euston after 8 am and the last one before 5 pm. So, if you’re in North Wales, Blackpool, or even Edinburgh, you’re out of luck on those days.
If you’ve got a ticket for January 12, you can travel anytime from January 11 to January 14, or just get a full refund. It’s a bit of a hassle, but at least they’re giving options.
