Canterbury: Traffic is a real mess right now. A burst water main has caused major headaches for drivers, and it looks like it’s going to stick around for a while.

South East Water has shut down parts of the A257 Littlebourne Road and St Martin’s Hill to fix the issue. This has left a lot of homes without water, which is never fun.

With the road closed, cars are backed up everywhere. The A257 is a nightmare, and it’s affecting nearby roads too, like Warwick Road and Spring Lane. It’s like a domino effect.

Even the ring road and routes through Harbledown are feeling the pinch. Kent County Council said the work permit was supposed to end today, but it’s now extended to Friday. No one knows how long the repairs will actually take.

Garth Haselgrove from South East Water apologized for the mess. He said they’re doing their best to fix things safely, but it’s complicated with other utilities nearby.

They’ve been digging outside the St Martin’s Hill Post Office, and it’s been a real hassle for everyone. Some folks had no water over the weekend, and while most supplies are back, the work isn’t done yet.

Local councillor Alister Brady mentioned that the traffic is even worse because of temporary lights being set up in Sturry Road. It’s just one thing after another, and drivers are feeling the frustration.

People are saying it’s absolute madness out there. One resident described a 90-minute tailback, while another said the traffic near St George’s roundabout was horrendous. Buses are stuck, and it’s just chaos.

A spokesperson from KCC explained that utility companies have the right to access their assets, which makes it tough to manage all these roadworks at once. They’re trying to keep things moving as quickly as possible.
