Sydney: So, get this! Some party-goers really went all out to see the New Year fireworks. A shopper saw a tent set up in a shopping centre car park, where four tourists were apparently camping overnight.
This shopper noticed the tent in an EV charging spot and said there were “four guys [who are] a long way from home” snoozing inside. They came to Sydney just for the fireworks!
The shopper even mentioned that the guys were still fast asleep after he made some noise with his car. He shared this on social media after visiting the Broadway Shopping Centre.
It’s a bit of a mystery how they managed to stay there since the car park usually locks up at night. Some folks online thought they might be homeless, but the shopper was pretty sure they were just tourists.
As New Year’s Eve rolled in, the city was buzzing with people. Many were camping out for hours to grab a good spot for the celebrations. One person joked about the tent in the car park, saying it took things to a whole new level.
Every year, Sydney attracts tons of tourists for New Year’s, and this year was no exception. About a million people flocked to the harbour foreshore to see the spectacular fireworks show, which featured nine tonnes of fireworks lighting up the sky.
This year’s display was the biggest ever, and there was a huge police presence to keep things safe and orderly. The atmosphere was electric, with parks and lookouts packed with people eager to catch the show.
While the night was mostly fun, the police did report 36 arrests for various issues, including some serious incidents. But overall, the crowd was well-behaved, and most people had a great time ringing in the New Year.
So, if you’re ever in Sydney for New Year’s, you might want to think about camping out too—just maybe not in a shopping centre car park!
