Inverness: So, there’s this amazing story about a Scottish mum named Gemma McMullan. She just completed a super tough 100km trek in the Himalayas for charity after battling aggressive breast cancer.

Gemma, who’s 36 now, was diagnosed back in 2022. After going through some intense treatment, she trained hard for about 10 months to get ready for this hike. Can you believe they hiked for 11 hours a day over nine days? They raised a whopping £11,000 for CoppaFeel!, a charity that focuses on breast cancer awareness.

When she got back to Northern Ireland, her five-year-old daughter, Mara, was waiting for her at the airport. That moment was so emotional for both of them, especially since it was the longest they’d been apart since Mara was born. The hike was in such a remote area that Gemma couldn’t even contact her family during the trip.

The reunion was caught on camera, and it was just heartwarming. It even won a competition by Loganair called A Season of Connections. Gemma was chosen as the winner, and now she gets a year’s worth of free flights for herself and a friend. How cool is that?

Gemma said winning the competition was great, but the best part was being back with Mara after such a long trek. She shared how the hike pushed her limits but also showed her the strength of family support during her cancer journey.

Loganair’s marketing head, Lyn MacDonald, praised Gemma’s story, highlighting how it reflects the importance of connecting with loved ones, especially during tough times. It’s just a beautiful reminder of what really matters.

Oh, and the two runners-up in the competition also got prizes, including tickets for a unique flight that lands on the beach. What a lovely way to celebrate connections!
