London: So, there was this funny moment at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. A young mascot named Rocco made a cheeky plea for Virgil van Dijk to join Spurs right before their Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool.
As the players were coming back from warming up, Rocco shouted, “Van Dijk, come to Tottenham! We haven’t got any good defenders at the moment!” It was a bold move, especially since Spurs have been struggling with injuries in defense.
Despite the mascot’s comments, Tottenham managed to pull off a 1-0 win against Liverpool, with Radu Dragusin and 18-year-old Archie Gray stepping up in defense. After the match, Rocco realized he might have overstepped and quickly apologized.
He told talkSPORT, “I’m sorry for what I said earlier. We’ve got Archie Gray and Radu Dragusin!” His dad, Charlie, chimed in, saying Rocco was feeling a bit sheepish in the car after realizing his mistake.
Charlie mentioned that Rocco thought he could convince Van Dijk to join the team but soon realized that the current players were more than capable. It’s a cute story, and Rocco didn’t even know he’d gone viral until his phone started blowing up!
