Willerby: A man named Phil Hardy had his whole collection of tools stolen right from his van. This happened on New Year’s Eve, and it’s been a real blow for him.
Phil had built up his handyman and gardening business after losing his job during the pandemic. He had invested a lot in his tools, which were worth thousands.
His sister, Suzie, is stepping in to help. She started a GoFundMe page to raise money so Phil can replace his stolen tools. She said he’s too proud to ask for help himself.
Phil is really struggling without his tools. He can’t work, and it’s stressing him out financially and emotionally. He feels terrible about letting down his regular customers, especially the elderly folks he helps out.
He relies on power tools more than most because he’s had back surgery and can’t bend easily. Suzie hopes to raise around £1,500 to get him some essential tools back, even if they’re second-hand.
Phil and his son, Tom, had worked hard to build their business from scratch, doing small jobs for friends and neighbors. It’s heartbreaking to see it all taken away.
The thief was caught on a neighbor’s CCTV, making multiple trips to steal Phil’s tools. It’s shocking how bold the guy was, even calling a taxi to pick up the stolen goods at 3 AM.
The police are looking into this theft, which they think might be part of a bigger problem in the area. Sadly, they don’t have high hopes of recovering Phil’s tools.
As of now, the GoFundMe has raised over £1,000, but they’re still working towards their goal. If anyone has information, the police are asking for help.
