Torridge: The council recently celebrated its longest-serving employees. It was a heartwarming event where they recognized folks who hit service milestones of 15, 25, and even 40 years.

Leading the pack is Michael Crocker, who has been with the council for an impressive 45 years. He started back in 1979 and has seen it all. Michael shared how much he loves working in the grounds maintenance team now, especially since he’s into horticulture.

He reminisced about his journey, starting as a carpenter and taking on various roles over the years. Michael mentioned how he’s made lifelong friends at work, which is a big reason he’s stuck around for so long.

Then there’s Lorraine Inch, who joined the council in 1992 as a part-time cleaner. After taking a break to raise her kids, she came back and has been in customer services ever since. Lorraine feels a strong loyalty to the council and loves her job, especially being part of the Staff Social Committee.

Councillor Ken James praised the dedication of these employees, saying it’s fantastic to see such commitment. He highlighted how important their work is, whether they’re in the spotlight or working behind the scenes. Recognizing their hard work with these awards is just a small way to show appreciation.
