Toronto’s No-Show Snow: When Will a Big Storm Finally Arrive
Toronto is still waiting for significant snowfall this winter, raising questions about when a major storm will finally hit the city

Toronto: This winter has been a bit of a letdown for snow lovers. While other parts of Ontario are getting buried under lake-effect snow, Toronto is left high and dry.
January usually brings the most snow, but so far, we haven’t even hit 10 cm in the city. Can you believe it?
The biggest snowfall at Toronto-Pearson Airport this season was just 5.2 cm on January 10. Even the two-day total barely reached 9.2 cm. That’s pretty underwhelming!
The last time we saw over 10 cm of snow was back on March 22, 2024. If we look even further back, it was April 3, 2016. Talk about a snow drought!
While northern Ontario and cottage country are getting their fair share of snow, Toronto is missing out. The snowbelt is where the real action is, thanks to the warm Great Lakes creating those lake-effect snow events.
So, when will the Greater Toronto Area finally get a decent snowstorm? As we move through January, Arctic air is expected to sweep down, but it might not bring the snow we’re hoping for.
We might see some clipper systems, but they usually don’t deliver heavy snow because they come with dry air. What we really need is the jet stream to cooperate and bring in moisture from the Gulf of Mexico.
It’s all about the right track for those storms. If it doesn’t line up, we could end up with rain instead of snow, like we did last November. Fingers crossed for some snow soon!
