Torbay: This winter, Torbay’s libraries are really stepping up to help folks stay warm. They’re offering free warm clothes, hygiene products, and even community fridges filled with food. It’s all about creating a cozy space for everyone.
Libraries Unlimited is back with its Cold Days, Warm Libraries campaign for the third year. The goal? To get people into these friendly library spaces, especially during the chilly months. It’s not just about saving on heating bills; it’s also about fighting loneliness.
Beth Harris, the Health and Wellbeing Manager, shared that everyone deserves to feel warm and connected. She emphasized that the libraries are open to all, with no strings attached. You can pop in, grab a hot drink, and enjoy some comfy seating.
Some libraries are even accepting donations of clean, warm clothing. If you need something, you can take it for free—no questions asked. It’s a great way to help each other out.
There are loads of activities happening too! From coat rails in Churston, Torquay, and Paignton to free warm drinks and hygiene banks stocked with essentials. They’re also hosting school uniform swaps and gentle exercise classes to keep everyone active.
Torbay Council has teamed up with Willmott Dixon to sponsor breakfast clubs at Torquay Library, adding more coat rails and support. Plus, Julian House is pitching in with coat donations for those who need it most.
So, if you’re in the area, check out what your local library has to offer. Whether it’s a warm drink, a cozy spot to read, or a friendly event, there’s something for everyone!
