Woodland Hills: It’s that time of year again when Tom Cruise spreads some holiday cheer with his famous coconut cake. This year, his friends are flaunting their delicious gifts on social media, and it’s all the buzz.
The cake, a white chocolate coconut bundt from Doan’s Bakery, has become a holiday staple for many A-listers. Glen Powell, who starred alongside Cruise in *Top Gun: Maverick*, shared a pic of his cake delivery, saying, “The Cruise cake has arrived.” He even throws a little party to celebrate it!
Mindy Kaling also got in on the fun, posting a photo of her cake with a cheeky caption, “IYKYK.” And let’s not forget Victoria Canal, who happily accepted her cake this year too, calling it a “10 out of 10” in her Instagram video.
Even the *Today* show crew couldn’t resist the cake’s allure. They dug into what they called “Cruise’s iconic coconut cake” during a segment, enjoying it for breakfast. It seems like everyone wants a taste of this sweet treat!
Interestingly, Cruise himself doesn’t indulge in the cake. He’s mentioned that while he loves sugar, he has to skip it while training. But that doesn’t stop his friends from enjoying it. Celebrities like Tom Hanks and Renée Zellweger have also been on the receiving end of this delicious gift.
Eric Doan, the bakery owner, shared that there’s a “curious fascination” around the cake. He’s not one to seek out publicity, but he’s grateful for the business it brings. Cruise orders hundreds of cakes each year, which has helped keep the bakery afloat, especially during tough times like the pandemic.
Doan’s been super busy baking, often working 12 to 14 hours a day. He’s got a small team helping him, but the demand is high, especially this time of year. He’s even got backorders stretching into February!
Fun fact: the cake was created by Doan’s mom back in 1983. It’s a coconut bundt cake with white chocolate chunks and cream cheese frosting, topped with toasted coconut flakes. It all started when Diane Keaton fell in love with it and introduced it to Cruise.
Sadly, Doan’s mom passed away in 2023, but he’s proud to carry on her legacy. Just before she passed, Cruise even called her for a chat, which meant the world to the family. It’s clear that this cake is more than just a treat; it’s a sweet connection to cherished memories.
