Thane: The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) is stepping up its game as the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) raises concerns. They’re telling everyone to stay calm and not panic. A 15-bed isolation ward has been set up at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa, just in case.

Reports say HMPV is making waves in China, and a few cases have popped up in India too. But the TMC is reassuring folks that there’s no need to freak out. This virus usually hits the upper respiratory tract, causing cold-like symptoms. It’s pretty common, especially in winter and early summer, much like the flu.

Saurabh Rao, the Municipal Commissioner, has asked the health department to keep a close eye on things. They’ve checked the data on respiratory infections, and thankfully, there’s been no big spike in cases compared to last year. Still, they’re urging everyone to stick to some simple guidelines to keep infections at bay.

To help out, the TMC has put together a list of do’s and don’ts. For the do’s, they recommend covering your mouth when you cough, washing your hands often, and staying home if you’re feeling under the weather. Drinking lots of water and eating healthy is also a good idea.

On the flip side, they advise against handshakes, reusing tissues, and getting too close to sick people. It’s also best to avoid touching your face too much and definitely not to spit in public. The TMC is really pushing for everyone to follow these tips to keep the community healthy.
