Tipton: A new children’s home is set to open in the area after councillors gave it the thumbs up. This decision came despite a petition with over 200 signatures opposing the plan.

The home, located on Stella Road, will provide a safe space for up to three vulnerable kids aged 8 to 17. Some locals were worried about parking issues and potential anti-social behavior, which sparked the petition.

Neighbors expressed concerns that the home might not fit in with the neighborhood. They feared it could attract drug dealers and worsen existing problems. But at the planning meeting, the director of the care firm, Flipping The Script, shared her personal experience in the care system, emphasizing that every child deserves a normal living environment.

One councillor reassured everyone that the home wouldn’t be a hub for drug users and that parking wouldn’t be an issue. She mentioned that the kids would likely be better supervised than in a typical family setting.

Another councillor echoed this sentiment, pointing out that if there are drug problems in the area, they’re not the fault of the children’s home. The planning officers had already recommended approval, stating that the home wouldn’t significantly change the character of the neighborhood.
