Three of the best pubs in Torfaen with disabled access

Cwmbran: Here at the Argus, we’re all about finding great pubs, especially those that are accessible. So, we thought it’d be a good idea to highlight some of the best wheelchair-friendly spots in Gwent.

This week, we’re shining a light on three fantastic pubs in Torfaen that cater to everyone.

Three Blackbirds Inn, Pentre Lane, Llantarnam, Cwmbran, NP44 3AY

The Three Blackbirds is a spacious pub on the edge of Llantarnam, nestled in a hilly area that’s popular with walkers. They’ve got a great selection of food and drinks, so there’s something for everyone.

The staff here are super friendly and have received praise for their support of wheelchair users, even rearranging seating to make sure everyone is comfortable.

This charming old inn has expanded quite a bit since it first opened as a small pub for local farmers. You’ll find a lovely entrance with steps leading to a cozy interior that has several connected areas, some on different levels.

While they focus on delicious food (with seasonal options), it’s also a great spot just to grab a drink.

The Upper Cock, The Highway, Cwmbran, NP44 2HE

The Upper Cock is a pub with a rich history, linked to the Chartists march of 1839. Local historian Fred Hando even noted that the pub sign had a lovely Welsh invitation on it.

This large roadside pub used to serve a rural community but is now surrounded by the new town of Cwmbran. After a big renovation a few years back, it now boasts a fresh interior and has rejoined the real ale scene with two hand pumps serving local brews.

The Greenhouse, Newport Road, Cwmbran, NP44 3BP

The Greenhouse is a historic gem in Llantarnam, known for its fantastic menu. Whether you’re celebrating or just want a casual meal, they’ve got you covered.

They’re especially famous for their Sunday roast, available all day, making it a perfect excuse to skip cooking at home.
