Dallas: A major winter storm has hit the southern U.S., causing a mess for travelers. Thousands of flights were cancelled, and traffic jams stretched from Texas to Georgia.

This storm is the biggest the region has seen in almost four years. It brought a mix of heavy snow and freezing rain, making roads tricky.

In Arkansas, a small town called Mena got hit the hardest, with 36 cm of snow. Little Rock also saw 20 cm, which is a lot for them.

Charlotte, N.C., finally saw snow after a long 1,076-day wait. This city hadn’t had measurable snow since January 2022, and it’s a big airline hub.

As you can imagine, the storm caused a lot of flight cancellations. Nearly half of all flights in and out of Atlanta were grounded. That’s a big deal since it’s the busiest airport in the world.

Power outages were minimal, with about 50,000 people losing power in parts of Texas and Arkansas. But overall, it could have been worse.

Highway delays were common, especially from Dallas to Greensboro, N.C. Driving in these conditions can be tough since many drivers aren’t used to icy roads.

The storm is expected to keep moving through the southeast and Mid-Atlantic overnight. More snow is on the way, which could affect travel plans for many.
