Brisbane: Thousands of folks on the east coast of Australia are getting ready for some serious rain and storms in the next few days. It’s a bit wild out there!
Most of Australia kicked off the New Year with warm weather, but some areas got hit hard with heavy rain and thunderstorms. It’s been a mixed bag for sure.
And guess what? The wild weather isn’t going anywhere soon. Queensland and NSW are bracing for showers and storms that could get pretty intense, especially in the afternoons.
Residents on both the western and eastern coasts should keep an eye out. The Bureau of Meteorology is saying that severe storms could really shake things up in northeastern NSW.
Miriam Bradbury, a senior meteorologist, mentioned that while it’s been humid lately, the biggest worry is heavy rain, which could lead to flash flooding.
Inland NSW might stay dry, but the eastern parts are in for a soaking. Meanwhile, Queensland is also expecting thunderstorms, especially in places like Cairns and Townsville.
So, if you’re in those areas, stay alert! The storms are expected to linger for a few days, and they might even reach down to Victoria.
A severe thunderstorm warning is out for several regions, including Central Highlands and Capricornia. It’s a good idea to keep an eye on the weather updates.
Some areas have already seen impressive rainfall, with 57mm recorded in just an hour at Folding Hills. That’s a lot of water!
For Victorians, it’s been a mild start to the year, but heavy rain is on the way as the high-pressure system shifts. Temperatures are set to rise by the weekend, so it’s a bit of a rollercoaster.
Western Australia is also feeling the heat, with warmer conditions than usual. Showers and storms are expected to continue throughout the week.
Looking ahead to Thursday, Brisbane will be cloudy and hot, with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Sydney will have mild temps and a slight chance of showers.
Melbourne is in for a mild day too, while Adelaide enjoys mostly sunny skies. Perth will see a sunny morning but could get a thunderstorm later on.
Hobart will be cool and cloudy, and Canberra is looking at a pleasant day. Darwin might even get some showers and thunderstorms in the late morning.
