Nostalgic Sequels Bring Comfort Amidst Today’s Chaos
This year’s gaming lineup is filled with sequels, offering a sense of nostalgia and comfort in a rapidly changing industry landscape

You know, for years, I’ve read articles about the “most anticipated games,” and they usually say something like, “Oh, it’s mostly sequels, but there are a couple of new games.” But now, looking back, that seems almost naive. We didn’t realize how good we had it back then.
The gaming industry has changed a lot recently, especially with the rise of those “live service” games like Fortnite and GTA Online. They keep going for years, raking in cash through subscriptions. Fortnite alone has made a staggering $20 billion since it launched!
But here’s the kicker: in the last couple of years, many big publishers have tried to jump on this live service bandwagon, and it hasn’t gone well. We’ve seen some major games get canceled, and thousands of people in the industry have lost their jobs. It’s been a tough time, for sure.
Now, looking ahead to 2025, I see a ton of sequels lined up. Grand Theft Auto VI is going to be huge, but there’s also Death Stranding 2 and Civilization VII. It feels like every month will bring a new nostalgic hit.
And honestly, that’s a relief. Sure, these games were probably in the works before the industry got obsessed with live service models, but it’s nice to know they’re still coming. It’s comforting to see these franchises still alive and kicking.
I think we’re going to see a lot of classic games making a comeback as publishers look for safer bets. Fable is getting a relaunch, and Sega is bringing back Crazy Taxi. It’s like the entertainment industry, always recycling old hits to please the fans.
But these sequels aren’t just cash grabs. They’re ambitious projects that promise to be wild and engaging. GTA VI is expected to be controversial and adult-themed, while Death Stranding 2 will dive deep into themes of death and solitude.
In this crazy gaming world, going back to what worked feels bold and hopeful. It’s a great time to be a gamer, just holding that controller and getting lost in a sequel.
If you’re into deep fantasy adventures, check out Caves of Qud. It’s a unique game with a rich world and tons of exploration. You can easily lose track of time playing it.
And hey, if you’re looking for some good deals, the Steam winter sale is happening now! There are some fantastic games on sale, but hurry, it ends soon.
Also, if you’re curious about the latest Nintendo Switch 2 rumors, there’s some buzz about a more powerful dock and fixing that annoying stick drift issue.
Lastly, a recent study found that open-world games can actually help with relaxation and mental well-being. Who knew gaming could be good for your mood?
