Fort Worth Surpasses Austin as Texas’ 4th-Largest City
Fort Worth has officially taken the spot of the fourth-largest city in Texas, surpassing Austin according to new population estimates.

Fort Worth: Another Texas city has taken the crown from Austin as the fourth-largest city in the state. This change comes from the latest population estimates released in November 2023.
The Texas Demographic Center gathered data from July 2023 and January 2024, showing that Fort Worth now has about 989,878 residents, which is nearly 3,000 more than Austin. Over the last few years, Fort Worth has seen a population increase of 7.7%, while Austin’s growth was just 2.6% during the same period.
Interestingly, a separate analysis by Smart Asset highlighted that New Braunfels and a few other Central Texas cities are also experiencing significant population growth, ranking among the fastest-growing cities in the U.S.
