Tasmania: It’s been a rough week for bushwalkers in Tasmania. A man in his 30s tragically lost his life after a fall at Federation Peak. He was hiking with friends when the accident happened on Monday morning.
His friends called for help, but sadly, rescuers couldn’t find him right away. It wasn’t until New Year’s Eve that he was discovered, and the Westpac Police Rescue Helicopter had to retrieve him.
The police mentioned that a report will be sent to the Coroner, and they expressed their condolences to the man’s family. Federation Peak is known for its tough trails, and it’s not for the faint-hearted.
Just a few days earlier, another bushwalker, a 54-year-old from Queensland, was found dead along the Western Arthur Range. This has led police to warn others about the risks of hiking alone.
They’re urging everyone to be cautious, carry enough supplies, and have a way to communicate in case of emergencies. Unfortunately, this week also saw a third death at Cradle Mountain National Park on Christmas Day.
