St. Catharines: So, here’s the scoop. The Theodore Tugboat replica, which many of us remember from childhood, has taken a bit of a dive. It’s been a staple in Halifax, but now it’s partially sunk at a dock in Ontario.
According to the boat’s owner, it started taking on water and ended up resting on the bottom in shallow water. It’s a bit of a sad sight, with just its red-capped head peeking above the surface.
They’re not sure what caused it to sink, but there’s hope that Theodore will be back sailing soon. A dedicated team is working on a plan to safely right the tugboat and get it floating again.
Blair McKeil, the owner, reassured everyone that no one was hurt when the tugboat went down. He bought Theodore Too back in 2021 after it was put up for sale due to the pandemic hitting tourism hard.
Since moving to Ontario, Theodore has been quite the traveler, making over 20 stops along the St. Lawrence River and the Great Lakes. It was built in Nova Scotia and launched in 2000, bringing joy to fans of the kids’ show that aired in the ’90s.
Even Nova Scotia’s Premier Tim Houston chimed in, expressing his sadness over the situation but also his relief that there are plans to refloat the tugboat. He sent some encouraging words to Theodore, saying, “Stay strong!”
