Mainely Provisions started in Kingfield back in 2020 and added a second store in Bethel this year. They offer a great selection of meats, fresh produce, deli items, baked goods, and even local beers and wines. Joe Christopher, one of the co-founders, mentioned that they really wanted to create a neighborhood grocery in Southern Maine. They did a lot of renovations to the building, adding coolers and a beer cave.
This new store is smaller than their other locations, but that’s part of the charm. It feels like the grocery stores of the past, not those giant box stores we see everywhere. They’re also committed to supporting local products, featuring a Carrabassett Coffee Bar and vegan options from Veggie Life.
On another note, Chef Matt Ginn has announced he’s leaving Prentice Hospitality after ten years. He shared on social media that it’s time for a change. He’s been a big part of the team, working at upscale venues like Chebeague Island Inn and Evo Kitchen + Bar. Ginn expressed gratitude for the opportunities he had and is looking forward to new challenges and spending time with family.
Ginn has quite the culinary background, having worked in top Boston restaurants before returning to Maine. He even won $10,000 on Food Network’s “Chopped” in 2018! It’ll be interesting to see what he does next.
And if you’re looking for something fun to do, Flanagan Farm in Buxton is kicking off its winter Supper Club events soon. Chef Rafael Zimmerman from Magnus on Water will be the guest chef, showcasing some amazing Peruvian dishes. Tickets are available, but they’re selling fast, so you might want to grab them soon!
