Liverpool: An emotional vigil took place for The Vivienne, a beloved drag star. The real name of The Vivienne is James Lee Williams, and they passed away at just 32 years old.

The Vivienne first gained fame on the inaugural season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, where they took home the crown. They later competed in RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars in 2022 and made history as the first drag queen on Dancing on Ice, finishing third in 2023.

The news of James’ passing was shared by their publicist on January 5. The family expressed their heartbreak, saying they were proud of all the amazing things James accomplished in life.

The competition returned to TV on January 12, with Holly Willoughby paying tribute to the talented drag artist. Meanwhile, a vigil was held in Liverpool, the city that James called home.

Simon Jones, James’ publicist, led the tributes, calling them a “hilarious talent” who was “never mean.” He added that The Vivienne was truly the queen of UK drag.

During the vigil, hundreds of green balloons were released in memory of The Vivienne, a nod to their role as the Wicked Witch of the West in the Wizard of Oz musical. St George’s Hall was also lit up in green, creating a beautiful tribute.

James’ friend Bobby and niece Isabella spoke at the event, with Isabella saying, “Thank you very much for coming. I love you uncle James.”

The vigil concluded with a touching performance of Somewhere Over The Rainbow, leaving everyone with a sense of love and remembrance.
