Clapham: This February, LynchPin Theatre Company is bringing a fresh play to the Bread and Roses Theatre. It’s called The Vegan Tigress, and it’s written by Claire Parker.
The story dives into the life of a 19th-century fairytale writer who accidentally calls up a ghost. It’s a fun mix of free spirits and the strict norms of the time, all wrapped up in a hilarious package.
Inspired by the Victorian author Mary De Morgan, the play touches on themes of memory, love, and legacy. Mary was quite the character herself—she was a socialist and a suffragist who wrote fairy tales that challenged the norms of her day.
Her stories were imaginative and often critiqued the social issues of her time. In The Vegan Tigress, Claire Parker gives Mary’s life a comedic twist, which sounds like a blast!
Claire shared her thoughts, saying she loves to bring inspiring women from the past back into the spotlight. She believes Mary’s ideas influenced many famous male writers, even if she wasn’t recognized in her time.
In this production, Claire plays Mary De Morgan, while Edie Campbell takes on the role of the ghost, Lady Tuttle. Tracy Collier is directing, and the play runs from February 18 to March 1 at the Bread & Roses Theatre.
