Tiptree: This little village in Essex has seen quite a bit of growth. It almost became a town, but the locals decided they liked it just the way it is.

Located about 10 miles from Colchester, Tiptree is famous for its jam, especially from Wilkin & Sons. It’s got a history that stretches back hundreds of years, making it quite special.

With over 11,000 residents, Tiptree is one of the largest villages in the UK. You wouldn’t think of it as just a village with all it has to offer.

There’s a fantastic garden center, four primary schools, a Grade II listed building, and plenty of pubs and supermarkets all close together. It’s got everything you need!

Even with its size and amenities, Tiptree has always been officially a village. It’s kind of funny because it feels like it should be a town.

Back in 1999, there was a big vote to see if Tiptree should become a town. Everyone got involved, and in the end, they decided to keep it a village. It was a pretty clear choice!

Since then, Tiptree has stayed true to its roots, and the residents are happy with that. Sometimes, it’s nice to keep things simple.
