Salford: A once-respected doctor is now behind bars for sexually abusing his patients. Dr. Wayne Sefton Davis, a GP, was found guilty of horrific acts against two women during medical exams.
This all happened over a 15-year span, from the 1990s to the 2000s. Despite his claims of innocence, the jury didn’t buy it. They convicted him of indecent assault and assault by penetration.
The investigation kicked off in May 2020 when two brave women came forward. One shared her experience of being assaulted during an appointment 14 years ago. She said he even tried to give her inappropriate advice about her marriage.
After the first victim spoke out, another woman also reported a similar experience. She described how he assaulted her while checking if she was a virgin. It’s just shocking.
Prosecutor Vanessa Thomson highlighted that the victims came from the Orthodox Jewish community, where discussions about sex are often limited. They trusted Dr. Davis completely, thinking he had their best interests at heart.
In court, Dr. Davis’s defense claimed he was a respected figure in the community and had been in custody for over a year. But that didn’t change the outcome. He was sentenced to eight years in prison and will be on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
Detective Sergeant Charlotte Sullivan praised the victims for their courage. She emphasized how Davis abused his position of trust, taking advantage of women when they were vulnerable.
