The Mancunian Way: ‘I can’t stay on the streets… it’s absolutely freezing’
As temperatures plummet, rough sleepers in Bolton face dire conditions, struggling to find shelter and warmth amid the freezing weather
Bolton, Manchester, UK, Rough Sleepers, Winter Weather
The weather has been wild lately, with everything from heavy rain to snow hitting Manchester. It’s been a tough start to 2025. Thankfully, local councils and charities are stepping up to help those in need. The Outreach Enterprise on Salope Street has been around for over 30 years, and their CEO, Dave Bagley, says they’re ready to assist rough sleepers in Bolton.
Dave mentioned that while the situation isn’t easy, they’re in touch with those who need help. He feels that the community is working together to tackle the issue, even if it’s still challenging.
And speaking of the cold, it’s so frigid that traffic lights are causing jams because the buttons at pedestrian crossings are freezing up! Residents have been pouring hot water on them to get them working again.
Parents are also feeling the pinch, with school bus delays driving them mad. Since the Bee Network took over, some buses have been running late, leaving parents scrambling to get their kids to school on time.
Meanwhile, flu cases are on the rise, and a local GP is helping folks figure out if they have a cold or the flu.
If you’re looking for something to do, Tatton Park is offering free entry for a while, perfect for a winter stroll.
So, stay warm out there, and let’s hope the weather gets better soon!
