London: The London Underground has stations of all kinds. Some, like Chesham and Heathrow Terminal 4, have just one platform. Others, like Clapham Common, have the narrowest platforms.

When you think of the biggest station, you might picture King’s Cross or Waterloo. But actually, it’s Baker Street, with a whopping 10 platforms serving five different lines.

Baker Street is the oldest underground station in the world, opening way back in 1863. Over the years, it’s turned into a busy hub, merging three stations in the 1930s to help with London’s growing Tube network.

Even though it’s not the busiest station, Baker Street is a major player. It connects the Bakerloo, Circle, Hammersmith & City, Metropolitan, and Jubilee lines, thanks to its many platforms.

The platforms are all linked, so it’s easy to get around. For example, the Jubilee and Bakerloo southbound platforms are just a short walk from each other. This setup helps keep the flow smooth, making it one of the busiest interchanges.

You can see the station’s history in its design. Platforms one to four got a makeover in the 1920s, while platforms eight to ten date back to 1906. They’ve made changes over the years to fit longer modern trains, like the S Stock trains.

Baker Street’s platforms have a lot of character. It’s nicknamed ‘The Cathedral’ because of its grand arches, and it even has a hidden spot that gives a rare view of the Bakerloo and Metropolitan line platforms.

Beyond its size, Baker Street is full of history and charm. As the oldest station in the London Underground, it’s a key part of the network and has plenty of hidden gems to discover.
