The London Underground Station That Closed After Just Two Years

Brill station, located far from the city, struggled with low passenger numbers and was closed after only two years of operation

London: So, there was this station called Brill, right? It was part of the London Underground but was way out in the sticks, about 45 miles north of the city. I mean, that’s almost as far as Brighton, which is south of London!

Brill opened in 1932 and, get this, it only had about 3,272 passengers a year. That’s like, barely anyone! They made just £191 in fares. Talk about a flop!

After just two years, they decided to shut it down. It was like, “Why do we even have this station?” Even when the London Passenger Transport Board took over, they realized it wasn’t going to bring in any money.

By 1935, Brill was officially closed. They auctioned off everything the next year, and now, all that’s left is open fields where the station used to be. Seems like it was meant to be a quiet spot all along!
