Chicago: So, a couple of weeks back, I was chatting with Devin McCourty about who could coach the Bears. I thought, why not look at coaches who are already leading other teams?
That’s when I tossed out names like Kyle Shanahan from the 49ers and John Harbaugh from the Ravens. I even mentioned it on The Score in Chicago and on Rich Eisen’s show. It was like lighting a firecracker—boom!
After the 49ers beat the Bears, their G.M. John Lynch joked about the idea of Shanahan being traded. But Shanahan made it clear he’s sticking with the 49ers.
Then, during a recent Monday Night Football game, the topic popped up again. Troy Aikman chimed in, saying the Bears need an offensive coach who can develop Caleb Williams. He even mentioned the possibility of trading for Shanahan.
It’s one thing for a regular guy like me to suggest it, but when a Hall of Fame quarterback like Aikman backs it, it gets people thinking.
The main takeaway is that teams shouldn’t just look at untested coordinators or fired coaches. Why not reach out to other teams? You never know what might happen.
I brought up Shanahan because the 49ers almost traded Jim Harbaugh a while back, and it seems like both he and the team could use a fresh start after some tough seasons.
Sure, 49ers owner Jed York might just laugh and hang up, but hey, making the call doesn’t cost anything.
And now, thanks to Monday Night Football, this trade idea is really catching on!
