Merthyr: A new report has come out showing which housing associations in Wales are getting the most complaints from tenants. It’s pretty eye-opening! In just six months, one association had over one complaint for every ten tenants. That’s a lot!

The Public Services Ombudsman for Wales shared the data, and it names Merthyr Valleys Homes as the top offender with 109.09 complaints per 1,000 tenants. Trivallis and Valleys to Coast Housing follow closely behind. It’s clear there are some serious issues that need addressing.

Most complaints were about repairs and maintenance, especially damp and mould. It’s frustrating when you’re paying rent and your home isn’t up to scratch. The report also lists other associations, showing a wide range of complaint rates.

Interestingly, the percentage of complaints upheld varied quite a bit among the top five landlords. For instance, Trivallis upheld a whopping 93.05% of complaints, while Newport City Homes was much lower at 45.6%. It’s good to see some landlords taking complaints seriously.

The ombudsman mentioned that they cover nearly 250,000 social tenants in Wales. On average, landlords closed about 80% of complaints within their set timeframes. That’s not too shabby, but there’s still room for improvement.

Michelle Morris, the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales, emphasized the importance of this data for tenants. It’s all about ensuring they have access to decent housing and that their issues are resolved quickly. Merthyr Valleys Homes has been asked for a response to their high complaint rate, so it’ll be interesting to see what they say.
