Payson: The Horton Fire has been a real challenge since it started on December 14. Thankfully, it’s now 75% contained, which is a relief for everyone around.

The fire kicked off near Horton Creek Trail and quickly spread from 45 acres to 300 acres in just a few days. It’s been a tough battle for the firefighters, especially with the tricky terrain and strong winds.

As of January 4, there were 418 personnel on the ground, including crews, engines, helicopters, and even a bulldozer. They’ve been working hard, even through a winter storm, to get things under control.

At one point, the fire grew to 8,337 acres, but now it seems like they’re finally making progress. The smoke has been pretty heavy at times, but with the containment efforts, things are looking up.

It’s worth noting that this fire was human-caused, which adds another layer to the story. Let’s hope for a quick resolution and safety for everyone involved.
