Manchester: The UK is in for a serious chill, with temperatures dropping to as low as -16C in some spots. It’s going to be a frosty night, especially in Greater Manchester.
As we head into Thursday morning, places like Bury and Stockport are expected to see lows around -4C. The UK Health Security Agency has even extended its cold weather alert for all of England until Sunday. It’s been a rough few days with this bitter cold.
In fact, the Met Office is warning that rural areas and parts of Scotland could hit those bone-chilling -16C temperatures. They’re also saying that snow and icy patches could cause some travel headaches.
So, if you’re in Bury, expect it to stay at -4C until about 5am. Salford will drop to -3C around 1am and stay below freezing until noon. Stockport is also looking at -4C from 1am to 3am before it warms up a bit.
Trafford will see -3C at midnight, while Bolton will be a tad warmer at -2C until 3am. Oldham is set to hit -4C around 5am, and Manchester will drop to -3C at 1am. Wigan will be coldest until 3am, and Tameside will see -3C overnight.
Rochdale will also hit -3C, staying that way until about 10am. Deputy Chief Forecaster Christoph Almond mentioned that Thursday night could be the coldest of the winter so far, with temperatures possibly hitting -15°C or even -16°C in some areas.
As we move into Friday, a weather front could bring some sleet or snow, especially in the south and west. But it’s still a bit uncertain how that will play out.
