London: The Chase viewers were glued to their screens when contestants Karen and Ian snagged a jaw-dropping £100,000 prize, one of the biggest ever on the show.
They went head-to-head with chaser Paul Sinha in a nail-biting final chase back in September 2024. It was intense!
Paul, known as The Sinnerman, was just one answer away from winning at 54 years old. The big question from host Bradley Walsh was about a BBC sitcom featuring Lesley Manville.
Unfortunately, Paul guessed wrong, thinking it was Last of the Summer Wine. That gave Karen and Ian a glimmer of hope, but they stumbled too, mixing up sitcoms and soaps.
In a heart-stopping moment, both teams struggled with their answers, and time ran out. Karen and Ian were declared the winners, leaving them in shock, as reported by the Express.
Karen could barely believe it, whispering, “Oh my God!” Bradley Walsh commented on the close call, noting how tricky it was with six attempts to push back, but only two executed.
In the end, Karen and Ian each walked away with £50,000, marking a historic win for The Chase.
Looking back, the biggest win in 2023 saw three contestants share a £120,000 prize, each taking home £40,000 after outsmarting chaser Mark Labbett.
Another unforgettable moment was in 2018 when a team won £100,000 in the final chase. And let’s not forget Eden, a 20-year-old who scored a massive £75,000 in a showdown with chaser Darragh Ennis, setting the record for the largest single-player win.
The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV and is available for streaming on ITVX.
