Long Melford: It’s a sad day for the Long Melford Football Club. Their chairman, Geoff Thomas, has passed away after a short illness. The club shared the news this evening, and it’s hit everyone hard.
Geoff had been the chairman since 2020 and was well-respected in the community. He died at home surrounded by his family on January 13. The club expressed their heartfelt condolences to his loved ones.
They mentioned that details about the funeral will be shared later. In the meantime, Club Secretary Russell Meekings and Club Hon President Richard Kemp will step in to handle Geoff’s responsibilities.
Geoff was a big part of the football scene, having previously chaired other clubs and even played in his youth for Queen’s Park Rangers. He was also a Level-2 FA Licensed coach, helping young players develop their skills.
Long Melford is one of the oldest football clubs in England, and both the first team and U23s compete in the Thurlow Nunn League. They’ll surely honor Geoff in their upcoming matches.
