Bristol, London, Cheltenham, Stroud, Bath, Cotswolds

Bristol: I once tried living in London, but it just wasn’t for me. Now, I’m really enjoying life in Bristol. If I ever think about moving, I want to stay close to my friends and family. This city has so much going for it!

If you check out The Times’ list of the best places to live in the UK, you’ll see there are plenty of great options nearby. Four of the top ten spots are just an hour or less from Bristol. They looked at things like school ratings, crime rates, green spaces, and even how happy people are with their GPs.

So, what are the best places? Richmond in West London takes the top spot. But right behind it is Cheltenham, which is only an hour’s drive from Bristol. This historic town is famous for its racecourse and has some of the lowest NHS waiting times in England!

Plus, the average house price in Cheltenham is around £342,000, which is much cheaper than Richmond. If you want something even closer to Bristol, check out Stroud, which is ranked third. It’s been called “Notting Hill with wellies” and has a great mix of independent shops, cafes, and community events.

Both Cheltenham and Stroud are near the Cotswolds, which is also listed as the seventh-best place to live. The Times mentions that the data isn’t perfect, especially at the village level, so it’s worth keeping that in mind.

Bath comes in at tenth place, and it’s a lovely city with Roman and Georgian architecture. It’s definitely worth a visit, especially if you’re a Bridgerton fan! As for Bristol, it made the list but landed in 78th place. Let’s just say we’re not too worried about that!
