But here’s the kicker: they’ve had to cut back on some of the festive fun. With a big funding gap to fill, the council even thought about slashing the lights budget by £80,000. Ouch! They also considered turning the lights on for a shorter time to save on energy costs.
Most of the decorations come from the Liverpool BID Company, which represents over 800 businesses in the city. Since 2017, they’ve been putting up a ton of lights and decorations, contributing to more than two-thirds of the city’s festive displays.
This year, they even had live ice sculptures and giant illuminated penguins at Liverpool ONE. But, of course, the fun had to pause when Storm Darragh hit the region. It’s been a wild ride for Christmas in Liverpool!
