London: Just a short walk from King’s Cross, there’s a hidden gem that feels like it’s from another time. Keystone Crescent, once called Caledonian Crescent, is a lovely, semi-circular street that holds the title of Europe’s smallest crescent.

The street is lined with beautiful Victorian houses built by Robert James Stuckey, who was behind many of the area’s iconic buildings. Back in 1846, it was named Caledonia Crescent, later changing to Caledonian Crescent after a nearby children’s home.

It’s interesting to note that ‘asylum’ back then meant something different. It was more like a safe haven for kids rather than what we think of today. Living London History mentions that around 240 people lived in just 22 houses on this street, mostly from lower and middle-class families.

Stuckey rented out many of these homes, using one as his office. But a surprising discovery was made when letters were found under the bed at number 2A. Turns out, Stuckey was living a double life!

He was married to Hannah Bennewith and had seven kids with her, but he also married Sarah Culver in 1864 and had another seven children. The letters revealed he was juggling both families, even after Hannah passed away in 1857.

Keystone Crescent had a rough reputation for a while, known for overcrowding and other issues. But in the early 1990s, Robert’s grandson, Algerton Stuckey, decided to give the area a makeover. Now, homes here are quite pricey, with listings around the £1 million mark.

The houses range from two to five bedrooms and are all Grade II listed, meaning any changes need approval. Each home has a lovely courtyard garden, with the outer circle houses having bigger gardens, while the inner ones are a bit cozier.

One house even stands out with its bright blue paint, while others have colorful doors that add to the charm.
