Koh Tao: Local police in Thailand have shared updates about the sad case of 21-year-old Robby Kinlan. He was found dead in his hotel room at the Baan Tao Bungalo Resort.
Robby, from Co Clare, was discovered by a friend around 11 am on Thursday. It seems he died from acute heart failure, according to the police. His friend found him while checking in after getting no response.
When the police arrived, they noted that Robby was holding his phone, which was charging. The room was locked from the inside, and there were no signs of a break-in or struggle.
Authorities are waiting for the rough seas to calm down before they can send Robby’s body to the mainland for an autopsy. Lieutenant Colonel Theeraphat Sanjai mentioned that they want to determine the exact cause of death as soon as possible.
Robby was reportedly alone in the room, wearing just boxer shorts. His friend didn’t know if he had any health issues. There were no signs of alcohol in the room, but the police didn’t rule out the possibility of him drinking elsewhere.
Koh Tao has a troubling history with unexplained deaths of tourists, earning it the nickname ‘Death Island.’ This island has seen its share of tragic incidents, including the high-profile murders of British backpackers in 2014.
Despite its dark reputation, Koh Tao is known for its stunning marine life and attracts many visitors each year. A fundraiser has been set up to help bring Robby’s remains back home, raising over €38,000.
Robby’s mother, Tracy King, expressed her heartbreak, saying her son was living his dream traveling and diving. She thanked everyone for their support during this difficult time.
Tracy described Robby as a bright light, always helping others and spreading kindness. The family hopes to honor him by allowing friends and family to say their goodbyes and celebrate his life.
