Houston: So, the House Ethics Committee just wrapped up an investigation into two Texas congressmen, Wesley Hunt and Ronny Jackson. They were accused of misusing campaign funds for personal stuff, like club memberships. But guess what? They got cleared!

The committee said they found no proof that either of them intentionally misused the funds. They did admit there were some issues with how the campaigns handled their finances, but nothing that pointed to wrongdoing on a personal level.

This whole thing kicked off back in March when the Office of Congressional Ethics flagged some campaign finance reports. They were looking into whether Hunt and Jackson were using campaign cash for private club memberships. Jackson had spent nearly $12,000 at the Amarillo Club, while Hunt dropped over $74,000 at the Post Oak Hotel.

Jackson’s team argued that the club membership included space for fundraising events, so it wasn’t just for personal use. Hunt provided some documents about his expenses, but they were mostly blacked out, which raised some eyebrows.

Both congressmen expressed relief after the committee’s decision. Hunt thanked the committee for their work, saying he always believed it would turn out in their favor. Jackson echoed those sentiments, insisting he followed the rules and was glad to move past what he called a politically motivated issue.

The committee also pointed out that the laws around campaign spending can be pretty murky. They updated their guidance on how campaign funds can be used, which should help clarify things for everyone involved.
