Rawtenstall: Traders at an East Lancs market are getting a new spot while the market gets a makeover. They’ll be moving to the town square, which sounds pretty exciting!

The town hall is looking to get the green light for some kiosks to set up a temporary market. These kiosks are coming from Ashton Market in Tameside and will be for non-food sellers.

In a report for a meeting coming up on January 8, officials mentioned that they had shared several options with traders back in August. They talked about staying in the market hall, using nearby car parks, or moving to the Town Square.

It seems like everyone was on board with the Town Square idea. Traders really want to stick together, and it looks like this spot is the best fit.

They’ve done their homework, checking out all the options for things like utilities, logistics, and security. After looking into it, the Town Square was found to be the most practical and cost-effective choice.

The council has set aside a nice chunk of change—£500,000—for this transitional market. They’re also planning to set up food stalls alongside the kiosks, which should make it even more appealing.

To sweeten the deal, traders will get one month rent-free for joining the move. After that, they’ll pay 80% of their usual rent while they’re in the new spot.

They’re expecting around eight food stalls and 16 non-food retailers to make the switch, but it all hinges on getting planning approval first.

Traders need to have the kiosks moved from Ashton Market by January 19, with hopes of relocating to the new market in Rawtenstall by March.
