Queensland: A teenager had a scary diving accident at K’gari, which used to be called Fraser Island, right around New Year’s Eve. It was a pretty intense situation, and they had to rush him to the hospital.
The Sunshine Coast LifeFlight helicopter was called in to help. They landed on a beach nearby and quickly got the teen to Royal Brisbane Hospital. Thankfully, he was in stable condition after being treated for what looked like spinal injuries.
But that wasn’t the end of their night. Shortly after, the helicopter crew had to head out again to find a missing kayaker in Moreton Bay. They found him pretty quickly, within about 30 minutes, and got him back safely.
It’s that time of year when everyone’s hitting the beaches and rivers to cool off during the summer holidays. Sadly, though, it’s also been a tough time for some families. A woman who went missing while tubing near Brisbane was found dead after a big search effort.
And down in New South Wales, there have been several tragic drownings and people going missing in the water over the holiday season. It’s a reminder to stay safe while enjoying the water.
