A teenager faces charges after allegedly assaulting a police officer in Perth while surrounded by a large group of youths

Perth: A 16-year-old is in trouble after an incident outside Optus Stadium. He’s accused of kicking and punching a police officer while a crowd of about 30 youths looked on.
The officer was on a motorcycle patrol when he spotted the teen charging his e-bike. After a brief chat, things escalated quickly, and the boy allegedly attacked the officer, leaving him with cuts and bruises.
It seems the group of kids surrounded the officer during the scuffle, and the teen made a quick getaway on his e-motorcycle. Police caught up with him not far from the scene.
Now, he’s facing a charge for assaulting a public officer and is set to appear in court on January 22. Before this incident, police had received complaints about a large group of youths causing a ruckus in the area.
Authorities are still looking into the situation, especially reports of disturbances in nearby Northbridge and Burswood. WA Police are expected to give more details later today.
