Castleford: A tragic accident occurred early in the morning when a car crashed into a sewage treatment pit. An 18-year-old was found dead near the vehicle, which was partially submerged in a wastewater tank.

The incident took place at Wheldale Sewage Works around 6:20 AM. Two other passengers, both 21, were rescued and taken to the hospital. They’ve since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Emergency services, including water rescue teams and firefighters, worked in freezing temperatures to respond to the scene. The victim, from the Wakefield area, has not been publicly named yet.

Police are looking for witnesses to the crash. They’ve asked anyone who saw the car on Wheldon Road before the accident to come forward. If you have any footage that could help, they want to hear from you too.
