Croydon: So, there’s been a really tragic case that just wrapped up. A teenager, Hassan Sentamu, was found guilty of murdering a 15-year-old girl named Elianne Andam. It all started over a teddy bear, which is just heartbreaking.
Hassan, who’s now 18, admitted to manslaughter but denied murder. He claimed he lost control because of his autism spectrum disorder when he stabbed Elianne in the neck outside the Whitgift Centre back in September.
The jury didn’t buy it, though. They found him guilty of murder after hearing how he had picked up a kitchen knife at home before the incident. The prosecution said he had no reason to have that knife and just flew into a rage.
Elianne was there with a friend to meet Hassan, who had previously dated her friend. They were supposed to swap some personal items, but things went south when he didn’t return the teddy bear she wanted back.
Now, the judge will decide on his sentence later. It’s a tough situation for everyone involved, and the community is really shaken up by this.
