Castleford: A teenager lost his life after a car went off the road and fell into a sewage treatment pit. It’s such a heartbreaking situation.
The 18-year-old was found just a few yards from the white VW Golf, which was mostly underwater. It’s really tragic to think about.
Police got the call to Wheldale Sewage Works early in the morning. They were responding to reports of the car leaving Wheldon Road and ending up in a sewage ditch.
Water rescue teams and firefighters braved the freezing temperatures to reach the scene. They discovered the car submerged in the wastewater.
Sadly, the young man was pronounced dead at the scene. He was from the Wakefield area, and it’s just so sad for his family.
Two other people in the car, both 21, were rescued and taken to the hospital. They’ve since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Police are now looking for anyone who might have seen the car before the accident. They want to piece together what happened.
